The two big names here are both haunted hayride parks, and neither one is actually in Wilmington. Frightland Haunted Attractions in Middletown has eight attractions, starting with a one-mile hayride, including a Zombie Prison. It's recommended for ages 14 and up. Plan for at least 90 minutes, and up to 4 hours on busy nights. Buy online, it's cheaper than paying cash at the booth. And wear old sneakers or boots. It's a working farm, with mud.

The Bates Motel & Haunted Hayride is up in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, with a hayride, a haunted motel and a scarecrow trail. They say the hayride is OK for kids, but the motel isn't recommended under 8. Prices run $40 to $125. Down in Galena, Maryland, 301 Devil's Playground Haunted Attractions wants you there within your 30-minute window. Not before. Not after. For the little ones, the Halloween Ghost Ship on Oct 17 has tall ship tours, an indoor ghost ship replica and trick-or-treating.
