Pick your size. On the big end, Howl-O-Scream 2026 in Tampa runs haunted houses, scare zones and thrill rides after dark, and it's pitched at a mature audience. Your ticket gets you into the park at 5 p.m., two hours before the event officially starts. On the scrappier end, Scream-A-Geddon in Dade City is a horror park where some houses let you opt in to get grabbed or split from your group. There's also Zombie Paintball Assault, if that's your jam. Sir Henry's Haunted Trail in Plant City has three hand-built trails plus a hayride. Plan ahead, though: tickets are online only.

The odd one is Undead in the Water VIII, a haunt on a 1945 cargo ship about a mile from downtown Tampa. You climb ladders and step over high door frames in the dark, so wear sturdy shoes. Want less screaming? A historic movie palace downtown runs ghost tours and a night of PG ghost stories, and there are walking tours in Ybor City and Safety Harbor. For something folksier, Tall Tales of Old Florida at Cracker Country on Oct 24 is lantern-lit storytelling about Florida legends and monsters. Advance tickets are required.
