The French Quarter does most of the work here. Six of the ten spots are ghost tours, and they all start about a mile from the center of town. Pick by format. French Quarter Phantoms Walking Tours covers vampire lore and the real history of Madame LaLaurie, at $22 if you book online. If you're 21 or older, there's a two-for-one Hurricane special before you go (plastic cups only on the walk). Beyond that, there's a pub crawl, a nighttime bus tour and cemetery tours through the Cities of the Dead.

For an actual haunted house, New Orleans Nightmare Haunted House runs an officially licensed Jason attraction plus an abandoned morgue stalked by a Wendigo, with five-minute mini escape rooms on the side. The Museum of Death isn't a haunt at all, but it might be the most disturbing thing on this list: crime scene photos, serial killer letters and mortician tools. Admission is $20, in person only. With kids, Ghosts in the Oaks in City Park is rides and trick-or-treating, Oct 15 to 18, and you need tickets in advance.
