Indy's scary stuff splits into two camps: big farm-style parks out of town and a couple of intense haunts in the city. Indy Scream Park in Anderson sprawls over 100 acres, with a prison haunt, a blackout maze and zombie paintball from vehicle-mounted guns. Be warned: everyone 18 and up has to bring a signed, printed waiver to the gate. Closer in, Fright Manor Haunted House is $25 and pretty upfront that it's very intense. There's a chicken exit if you need it. Fun fact: on Friday nights a student ID or a high school football ticket gets you a discount.
If your kids scare easily, I'd send them to The Children's Museum Guild's Bewitched BOOseum Haunted House, which keeps the lights brighter and the music upbeat, with greeters handing out treats. For grown-ups, there's an 18+ after-dark tour of the Indiana State Museum about cryptids and ghost stories, with flashlights provided. For a family walk with a bit of everything, the Delaware Street Spooky Tour on Oct 17 has trick-or-treat stops, hot cider and a peek inside some grand old Old Northside homes.
