Despite the name, The Dark Manor Haunted House isn't really a house. It's a fully outdoor trail out in Baltic, through a graveyard and mausoleums full of undead creeps and chainsaw freaks, and it's not recommended under 13. Buy online and you get a separate, faster line. Closer in, The Demon House in Middletown is a stone mansion and grounds, with campfires and an outdoor movie theater. Be warned: you have to take their free shuttle. People who try to walk in get turned away.
For a mixed group, Flamig Farm Haunted Walk Through in West Simsbury starts milder earlier in the evening and gets scarier later. It's $16 for ages 3 and up. Leave the stroller at home. If you'd rather have history than jump scares, the Hallowed History Lantern Tour at Cedar Hill Cemetery is one night only, Oct 30, with actors playing people buried there. Reservations are required. And a farm in Torrington does a kid-friendly haunted house for $7. Cheap and easy.
