For real scares, you'll be driving out of Flint a bit. Past Tense After Dark in Lapeer, about 20 miles out, does three haunts: a haunted hotel inside its House of Horrors, the Corn Maze of Fear and the Hayride of Despair. Afterward there are donuts and cider at the mill next door, which I'd call the right way to end that kind of night. They don't recommend it for kids under 10. Factory of the Dead in Saginaw is the indoor option, from $25, with escape room and UV GellyBall combos.

Closer to home, Halloween Happenings at Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium is the family pick, with a kid-friendly haunted house, laser light shows set to spooky songs and hands-on science workshops, $3 to $21.
