Seven haunted houses, all under tents at the fairgrounds. That's 7 Floors of Hell in Middleburg Heights, and on peak weekends they say to plan on two to two and a half hours. The lines are outdoors and the grounds get wet, so dress warm and wear sturdy shoes. They recommend it for 10 and up and won't let in kids under 5. Bloodview Haunted House in Broadview Heights is the charity pick, presented by the local Lions Club, with a $30 all-night pass (cash price) if one trip isn't enough.
The unusual one is Nightmare at Pioneer in Chardon. A water park turns into a scare park with six haunted houses, and you can race burlap sacks down the speed slides for $10 a night. Yes, the water slides. It wraps Oct 24, earlier than most. For kids, the Lorain County Metro Parks Halloween Fair in LaGrange is $7 and starts on a family-friendly trail before it turns into a scary one. There's a little train, too.
