The fire company's price list says headless bodies get in free. That's Tylersport Volunteer Fire Company Haunted Hayride, almost a mile of dark wooded trail by wagon, $15 a person, cash only, and only through Oct 17. Hotel of Horror in Saylorsburg is the bigger production: two walk-throughs inside an old Victorian hotel, roughly an hour combined, recommended for 13 and up. General admission is $45 on later-season Fridays and Saturdays.

If you're willing to drive into New Jersey, Haunted Red Mill: Evil Rising in Clinton runs mazes, trails and a river hayride around a 200-year-old mill. Plan ahead, though: they warn of waits over an hour, and say to show up in the 6 o'clock hour or after 9 p.m. For something calmer, Crystal Cave "Ghost" Lantern Tours in Kutztown takes you underground by lantern light with guides in Victorian clothes. Adults are $30, ages 8 to 11 are $23, and you reserve by phone.
